Malibu

Twenty one miles of Pacific coast are home to Malibu, world famous for its beaches, surfing, celebrity homes, and the Pacific Coast Highway which runs the length of the city.  Most residents live within a few miles of the coast.  While the lots tend to be somewhat smaller than some other communities, the houses on them can be as varied as the people living in them.

The names of the beaches in Malibu are as familiar as a Beach Boys song, Zuma Beach, Surfrider Beach, Malibu State Beach, and Topanga State Beach.  As are the parks and recreation areas, Point Mugu State Park, Malibu Creek State Park, and Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area.

The gated community of Malibu Colony was one of the first areas of Malibu to be lived in after it was made available to the public in 1929.  Originally kept to a few well-off Hollywood movie stars’ vacation homes, it later was made more readily available.  The views alone make the property value worth the price.  Some of the most beautiful coastline in the world, including “The Queen’s Necklace” are visible from Malibu Colony.  Local attractions also include horseback riding, hiking, and biking trails with an unparalleled vista consisting of mountains, oceans and canyons.

Shopping and dining can be accommodated quite nicely in Malibu.  Two shopping centers are available, the Cross Creek/Malibu Country Mart Shops and the Malibu Colony Plaza, both within walking distance of the Malibu Colony.  A relaxing dining experience can be had in either shopping center, or along the Pacific Coast Highway in a variety of upscale restaurants.

Since 1991, Malibu has enjoyed the benefits of being an incorporated city.  This has allowed residents to maintain a stricter control on the development of property, keeping Malibu the pristine beach community it is today.  Currently, the community is encouraging a “Go Green” campaign in an effort to keep the natural beauty unaltered.
